What is IGNITE Broward?

IGNITE Broward offers five days and nights of free immersive art experiences from Wednesday, January 24 through Sunday, January 28, 2024. The festival showcases interactive artworks, sculptures, and projection mapping in two locations in Broward County (Dania Beach and Fort Lauderdale), with daytime and evening options to attend.

What’s the difference between the Fort Lauderdale and Dania locations?

Each location offers a wide variety of experiences and exhibitions by artists from around the world. What you’ll see in Dania will be different from what you’ll experience in Fort Lauderdale — which means you’ll want to visit both sites, even on the same day, as they are less than 7 miles apart.

The Dania location features indoor and outdoor experiences and is open daily (10 am—8 pm; with extended viewing until 10 pm on Friday and Saturday nights).

The Fort Lauderdale site’s experiences are presented outdoors in the evening only (6—10 pm; and until 11 pm on Friday and Saturday).

Where will the art be in Fort Lauderdale?

Downtown Fort Lauderdale’s Esplanade Park (400 SW 2nd St.) features installations and sculptures on the park gazebo, along the Riverwalk, and among the trees on the west side of the park (below the Broward Center for the Performing Arts), along with 3D projection mapping at the Museum of Discovery & Science (MODS) building.

Where will the art be in Dania Beach?

In Dania, the expanded Mad Arts space (481 S. Federal Highway) features two floors of indoor art experiences, plus nearly a half-acre of activations in an outdoor digital sculpture garden.

Do I need to register and how much does it cost?

Festival attendance is free and there’s no need to register. Please check our events page for more information on event RSVPs.

What if it’s raining?

IGNITE Broward will take place, rain or shine!

Can I bring kids?

Absolutely! All of the art on view during IGNITE Broward is an exciting experience for all ages.

Can I take pictures?

Photos and videos are encouraged!

Are pets allowed?

Leashed pets are welcome at the Fort Lauderdale location. Only service animals are allowed indoors at the Dania Beach location.

Travel and Parking:

Mad Arts, Dania Beach:

Parking at Mad Arts is free, with 2 parking lots with 100 spaces adjacent to the building on SE 4th Terrace and SE 5th Street. Find directions here
Another option is free parking at the City Hall Parking Garage which has 400 spaces and offers complimentary shuttle service to and from Mad Arts Friday through Sunday. Find directions here

Esplanade Park, Fort Lauderdale:

Car: Parking garages and metered street parking are available immediately surrounding the downtown Fort Lauderdale location. The closest parking garage is the Arts & Science District Garage on the corner of SW 2nd Street. For directions, click here.
Boat: View the art from the Intracoastal. There is also a free water trolley that will bring you to the downtown Fort Lauderdale location. Find your route here.
Train: Take the Brightline to the Fort Lauderdale station, which is two blocks from IGNITE in Fort Lauderdale. Kids ride for 50% off and you can get to and from the station with Brightline+.

Are there bathrooms?

Yes, ADA-accessible bathrooms are available for the public at both locations.

Will there be music?

There are sound components at most of the locations that provide an immersive experience for all your senses.

Can I bring food? Are there places to eat nearby?

You are welcome to bring your own food to the nightly outdoor installations in Esplanade Park. The park’s greenspace is open throughout the duration of each evening so feel free to bring a blanket and relax on the lawn with a picnic!

There is also a wide variety of restaurants within walking distance of the Fort Lauderdale activation as well as near the Dania location. Here are some options:

What else can I do in the area?

There’s lots to do nearby! Some options:

NSU Art Museum Fort Lauderdale is offering buy-one-get-one-free admission throughout the duration of IGNITE Broward.
Broward Center for the Performing Arts is adjacent to the Esplanade Park artwork, so catch some art on your way going to or from a show.

Can we go into the Museum of Discovery & Science (MODS) too?

The nightly activations take place after MODS has closed. However, if you catch a late afternoon show at the museum’s IMAX theater, you will walk through one of the IGNITE activations when you exit the theater at night.

Are there other special events I can attend?

Who puts on IGNITE Broward?

IGNITE Broward is presented by the Broward County Cultural Division and produced by Mad Arts, a developmental space for creative projects. Sponsored by Visit Lauderdale, the City of Fort Lauderdale, the City of Dania Beach, and FPL, IGNITE is also supported by Riverwalk Fort Lauderdale and the Museum of Discovery & Science.

Is the art ADA-accessible? I want to make sure all my friends can come.

Yes, of course! All installations will be accessible for everyone to attend.

How long should I plan to spend at IGNITE?

Your visit can be as brief or as long as you want. We recommend allowing yourself about an hour to experience the art at the Fort Lauderdale location, and at least two hours at the Dania Beach location.
